Job Description:
ASSEMBLY
Perform a wide variety of assembly operations including organizing, consolidating, and matching-up parts, pumps, bedplates, motors, and data as required for production needs. Review/pre-read orders for all pump products passing through the assigned area. Responsible for accurate and complete assembly of various pump models according to applicable work instructions. Responsible for proper storage of all finished, semi-finished and rough stock parts and materials in the assembly area. Maintain accurate stock bin location files for all incoming materials from shop move orders.
Work may require moderately heavy work loading some parts by hand. Lifting heavy parts occasionally but not continuously as well as stock work. This position requires visibility to controlled documents.
TESTING
Perform set-up and removal of the pump equipment for hydraulic and mechanical evaluation. Assure the integrity and safety of every test set-up prior to operating the equipment including proper pump installation, interconnecting piping, instrumentation, protective guards, and hearing and eye protection.
Responsible for the review and validation of hydraulic performance including the determination of impeller trim diameter, adequate motor rating, and the suitability of the selected pump for use by the customer. Utilize both historical records and electronic testing databases to review trends. Verify mechanical performance including leakage, vibration, noise, and temperature measurements are within specification.
Strong organizational and communication skills, analytical experience and problem solving. Must be self-motivated, independent, and flexible to adapt to frequently changing tasks and priorities.
The amounts of pump assembly vs. testing work assigned for this position may vary dependent upon business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual should be smart and have strong mechanical assembly skills, experience, and interests. At least one year of work experience in assembly/testing of heavy mechanical equipment is required (for example, pumps, rotating equipment, engines, industrial machinery, etc.). The ideal candidate would have significant prior experience assembling and testing pumps. Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings. The additional requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent related experience. Basic knowledge of computer operation. Prior experience in production or manufacturing, and use of hand production tools, strongly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, managers, customers, etc.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTING SKILLS
Basic knowledge of computer operation. Must have basic familiarity with computer and software systems such as email, database, and data entry. Prior experience and proficiency using Microsoft Excel is required.

The employee is frequently required sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, grasp, and pinch, and may occasionally squat, kneel/crawl, reach overhead, and perform repetitive motion functions while maintaining body equilibrium. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and support up to 85 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Use of standardized personal protective equipment (PPE) to include steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and others as appropriate.
